Our Story

Since childhood, I was attracted towards percussion and by God’s grace I played the basic taals on my own on tabla without a formal training. However I was always looking for a good teacher but could not find one for a long time.

My interest developed and I was happily accepted by Shri B.S. Ramanna Ji and he introduced me to the world of laya and taal. I’m still learning from him and hope to continue for a long time as I’m still a young student.

The very sound vibration of Pakhawaj – Naad is the most beautiful sounds that I’ve ever heard. It always attracted my heart and I was always searching for a good teacher. My search finally ended when I met Pandit Dalchand Sharma Ji – A leading Pakahwaj Maestro from Nathdwara Gharana. God is again kind to me and he also happily accepted my as his student.

Pakahwaj being the “aadi vadya” is itself a complex instrument to understand, however this blog is my just an effort to bring forward some interesting aspects of this instrument, especially from Nathdwara Parampara.

Please feel free to send your comments and suggestions.

Great site. I was looking for some decent (high quality) audio recordings of Pakhawaj when I happened to be on your site. Good work! Do you know of any sites where you can find good recordings.

While your videos are nice, the audio quality is pretty varying. Else, it might be worthwhile to do some recordings :)

Thanks for the kind words and comments. I think there are very few links available for pakhawaj recordings and the sound quality is poor. I’ve requested Pandit ji for some recordings and I’m planning to shoot some videos too…but good audios will be available only through studio recordings I guess.

I am delighted to come across your blog. I love the pakhawaj and have been trying to learn this great instrument since a few years. I can play the basic taals (thekas) used in Haveli Sangeet but lack the necessary practice. Hope to devote more time to it.
